Terms of use

In short: makespan is free, with extra features in the PRO subscription. PRO starts with a free first month, renews automatically until you cancel, and can be cancelled anytime on Google Play. You have 7 days after the first charge to change your mind and get a full refund.
1. Who provides the service
makespan is provided by Alan Lima da Costa, an individual, at Rua Colônia Leopoldina, 194, Vila Sílvia, São Paulo, SP, 03821-020, Brazil. Contact: support@makespanapp.com. By installing or using the app, you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
Support. We answer questions, complaints and cancellation or withdrawal requests sent to support@makespanapp.com within 5 days.
2. What makespan is
makespan is an Android app that organizes work into cycles: you set a batch of tasks at the start, work through each one with a stopwatch that counts up, and earn a break proportional to your focused time. The app works without a user account, and your data stays on your device.
3. License
We grant you a personal, free, non-exclusive and non-transferable license to use the app. You may not copy, sell or redistribute the app, or modify it to get around the subscription charge, except where the law allows.
4. Free plan and PRO
The full cycle (planning, stopwatch that counts up, 20% rest and cycle summary) is free. The PRO subscription unlocks: dashboard and history, data export, cycle tones, adjustable rest ratio, focus mode, alarm at the end of the break and background sounds. If the subscription ends, these features are locked again and the settings return to the free defaults. Your history stays stored on the device.
5. PRO subscription
Purchase. The subscription is purchased and charged through Google Play, as a monthly or yearly plan. The price, in your currency, is shown on Google Play before you confirm the purchase.
Free trial. Both plans start with 30 free days, subject to Google Play's eligibility rules. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, the first charge happens automatically.
Automatic renewal. The subscription renews at the end of each period, monthly or yearly, and is charged again until you cancel.
Cancellation. You can cancel anytime on Google Play (profile > Payments and subscriptions > Subscriptions) or with the cancel button in the app's PRO tab. Access continues until the end of the period already paid, and the next renewal is not charged.
Price changes. We may change the subscription price. Currently, a new price applies to people who subscribe after the change, and existing subscribers keep the price they signed up for while their subscription is active. If the price of an active subscription ever changes, the new price only applies after advance notice, in the way and within the deadlines set by Google Play, and, where Google Play or the law requires it, after you agree. If you do not agree, you can cancel at no cost before the new price applies.
6. Withdrawal and refunds
Because the purchase is made outside a physical store, you can withdraw within 7 days after the first charge and get the full amount back (Brazilian Consumer Defense Code, art. 49). Ask by email at support@makespanapp.com, with your Google Play order number, or through Google Play's own refund request. We confirm receipt of the request as soon as it arrives and ask Google Play for the refund right away; how long the money takes to come back depends on your payment method. After that period, there is no prorated refund for the current period, except where the law provides otherwise.
7. Your data and backups
Because the app has no user account, your data stays only on your device. If you uninstall the app, clear its data or lose the device without a backup, your history may be lost. To keep a copy, use data export (PRO) or Android backup. Details are in the privacy policy.
8. About the method
makespan is a work organization tool. It does not provide medical, psychological or health advice. The method was inspired by studies on planning, interruption and task resumption, but the 20% rest ratio and the break at task completion have not yet been tested in a study.
9. Changes to the app
The app receives updates that may add, change or remove features. If a change significantly reduces what PRO offers, we will give notice in advance, and you will be able to cancel your subscription. If the app is discontinued, we will give at least 30 days' notice and refund the unused part of subscriptions already paid.
10. Liability
We work to make the app run well, but it depends on your device, on the Android system and on Google Play, which are outside our control. We are liable for damage we cause, within the limits of the Brazilian Consumer Defense Code and applicable law.
11. Intellectual property
The makespan name, symbol, code, texts and illustrations of the app and the website belong to Alan Lima da Costa. The app's ambient sounds are in the public domain (CC0 license), and the Poppins font is used under the SIL Open Font License.
12. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by Brazilian law. The courts of the consumer's place of residence have jurisdiction.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version in force is always on this page, with the date at the top. Relevant changes will be announced in the app in advance.
